2 Furnace Area Layout and Modification Features
2.1 Brief Description of the Process
The continuous casting billets are delivered from the hot delivery roller table to the billet transfer car and then pushed onto the trestle by the billet collecting device. They are subsequently clamped onto the steel billet charging trestle by a crane (four billets at a time) and conveyed to the furnace tail roller table for entry. The responsibility for the above lies with the buyer.

The billets are pushed into the furnace by a hydraulic pusher and heated inside the furnace until they reach a temperature of 1000ºC to 1150ºC before being discharged. The heated continuous casting billets are sent out one by one via the discharge cantilever roller table and conveyed to the roughing mill for rolling.

The reheating furnace adopts a single-row loading method and the steelmaking cycle is coordinated with the rolling rhythm.


2.2  Layout of Reheating Furnace Area
A new pusher type reheating furnace is built in the reheating furnace area.

The reheating furnace is equipped with two combustion air blower (one used and one standby), a flue gas induced draft fan and a coal smoke induced draft fan. These four fans are located at the original blower and induced draft fan.

The reheating furnace is equipped with two steel stacks (reused), one for gas side exhaust and the other for air side exhaust.

The existing electromagnetic station is reused for the electrical cabinet of the reheating furnace. The operation of the discharge system, instrument control, and electrical control of the reheating furnace are centralized in the main control room on the discharge side.

The water beam of the reheating furnace is cooled by vaporization.

The water supply and drainage system are arranged according to the needs of the water cooling components such as water beam and fan at the charging end of the reheating furnace.

In order to meet the needs of operation and maintenance, corresponding platforms and ladders are arranged around the furnace and on the top of the furnace.

Design Plan of Reheating Furnace
3.1 Features of Reheating Furnace Design Plan
The reheating furnace can meet the requirements of high yield, high quality, low consumption, pollution-free and automatic production operation.

The reheating furnace adopts a dual regenerative combustion mode, with burners arranged on the upper and lower wall of the furnace. The furnace has a simple and compact structure, resulting in high thermal efficiency.

The furnace adopts a flat top structure. The configuration and selection of the combustion system are reasonable, ensuring uniform heating of the steel billets, simplifying the furnace structure, improving the operating environment and meeting environmental requirements.

The furnace is equipped with a monolithic top and a composite furnace wall structure to minimize heat loss from the furnace body.

3.3 Combustion System of Reheating Furnace
The heating furnace is equipped with 3 heating sections and the furnace temperature is controlled automatically. By setting the temperature value of each section heating and controlling the input of fuel quantity in each section, the steel output temperature and temperature uniformity are ensured.
(1) Sealing measures for regenerative burners
The regenerative burner form is adopted and the regenerative body is placed in the burner.
The use of a regenerative burner with a split structure helps prevent cracking due to excessive temperature differences.
The heat dissipation structure of the regenerative burner's shell protects the lining.
Double-sided sealing at the interface ensures a tight seal.
The integral casting of the burner with the furnace wall ensures a sufficient seal.
Expansion joints are provided around the burner area to reduce expansion cracks and leaks.
The selection of refractory materials for the furnace wall helps reduce expansion cracks and leaks.

A fully sealed structure is used between the burner shell and the steel structure, with reinforced treatment of the steel structure at the burner location.
(2)Structure of regenerative burners
The furnace is equipped with a combination of left and right crossed burners, with a total of 60 burners arranged on the side walls of the furnace.
Due to the rapid reaction between the steel billets and oxygen in the high-temperature zone, it is important to minimize the residence time of the steel billets in the high-temperature zone and reduce the oxygen content on the surface of the billets to decrease combustion loss.


The burner structure and material should ensure a sufficiently long service life. The connection between the burner and the furnace wall should be properly handled to facilitate installation and prevent fire accidents. The gas and air regenerative burners are completely separated to avoid the phenomenon of gas crossover.

The combustion nozzle is a critical component of the combustion system, and the proper organization of combustion relies on it. In terms of combustion organization, the design of regenerative burners should consider the combustion mixing of low-calorific gas, ensure complete combustion of the gas, and achieve uniform furnace temperature. It should facilitate the realization of low-oxygen combustion to avoid local high-temperature overheating. On one hand, it should enhance the uniformity of furnace temperature and reduce the generation of harmful gases such as NOx. On the other hand, it should minimize decarburization at high temperatures. Therefore, the design of the nozzle should consider the optimal gas outlet velocity and the angle of mixed injection.


In this plan, the burner has a high flow velocity, which can strongly disturb the high-temperature furnace gas and enhance convective heat transfer between the high-temperature furnace gas and the steel billets, thus improving the heating quality of the billets.


3.4 Discharge Cantilever Roller Conveyor
The furnace's discharge roller table consists of a cantilever roller driven by a group of AC variable frequency speed-controlled motors. The rollers have a curved self-aligning surface, which allows the centerline of the discharged material to align as closely as possible with the centerline of the roller table. The roller shafts are hollow and water-cooled, using clean circulating water for cooling. Heat-resistant steel roller sleeves are installed on the roller shafts and secured with nuts. The roller shafts transmit the movement of the shaft sleeves to position the steel billets through a key mechanism.

The motor-reducer assembly is mounted on the roller shaft and directly drives the shaft sleeve. The roller shafts are supported on the base through bearings.

Insulating baffles are installed between the roller shafts and the furnace shell to reduce heat loss and prevent overheating of the bearings.

To observe the operation of the cantilever roller table and the steel discharge situation inside the furnace, a reliable high-temperature industrial television is installed on the opposite side of the furnace wall from the steel discharge port.

Two roller tables are installed near the furnace door exit to facilitate the transition between the internal cantilever roller table and the external discharge roller table.
